A timeless tale of music and craftmanship

Our story is deeply rooted in passion and craftsmanship, indissolubly linked to the birth of the “Solidsteel” brand in the early 1990s. Founded by Moreno Conti, a music enthusiast with extraordinary creative abilities, our brand has proudly made its mark in the world of music and artisanal excellence.

The name “Solidsteel” has profound origins, dating back to the ’70s and ’80s. It all began with a young man from Pescara, passionate about music and motors, who worked diligently at his family’s renowned “Conti” company, supplying silencers for Ducati motorcycles.

During this time, he learned intricate metalworking techniques, experimenting with cutting-edge machinery and advanced flame-welding techniques. This was the first significant step towards creating metal furniture to house electronic devices for the Hi-Fi world.

Driven by his love for music and the desire to enhance his audio listening experience, the passionate young man envisioned creating equipment that would elevate the performance of his beloved audio system. Although he never learned to play a musical instrument, his profound admiration for audio culture led him to conceive a tool, much like a musical instrument, to refine the sound of his favorite music: his audio setup.

As the late ’80s approached, various family circumstances brought his family business close to closing. This motivated the determined Moreno to further develop and perfect what had become the fruit of his musical passion. It is essential to note that at that time, there were no specialized audio furniture companies in Italy.

Thus, between 1988 and 1989, the first prototypes of “Solidsteel” furniture were tested and presented to friends, acquaintances, and passionate audiophiles. The initial results were incredibly encouraging, and with the support and complicity of his wife, Dora Bellini, the young Moreno decided to embark on this professional challenge.

With firm foundations to build upon, “Solidsteel” was born in 1990, along with a series of handcrafted models using the most sophisticated metalworking techniques. Invisible welds, high-quality wooden shelves, impeccable finishes, and turned spikes for vibration damping became the hallmark of our products, setting them apart in the market.

During this critical phase, our founder, brimming with ideas and enthusiasm, along with his supportive wife Dora, established contact with Audiogamma, one of Italy’s leading audio distribution companies. This collaboration played a fundamental role in propelling the “Solidsteel” brand into the Italian and international markets for over two decades.

Proudly, most of our historical commercial partners date back to this pivotal period. From its inception, our family-run company embarked on a journey of hard work, sacrifices, research, experimentation, and initiatives focused on constant product improvement. These efforts embody the spirit of a small family-owned business, embracing the traditional values and principles synonymous with “Made in Italy.”

An essential milestone to mention is the introduction of the prestigious Hyperspike Series in 2004, currently the flagship within our product range.

Now, fast forward to more recent times. From 2008 onward, the global audio market experienced a significant contraction. We faced numerous management challenges within the Italian labor market that affected our production and key suppliers. As a result, our business naturally evolved in terms of operations and communication, leading to complete independence on the international commercial front. Consequently, our collaboration with Audiogamma for foreign distribution ceased (while maintaining the historical partnership for national distribution until the end of 2014).

A few years later, in the spring of 2013, our company faced an unexpected turning point. The tragic and sudden passing of our beloved Moreno Conti threatened to shatter the business. A vital pillar of our family, he suffered a fatal heart attack on a non-working day, leaving us heartbroken and devastated.

However, in the wake of this tragedy, just as the company seemed destined for closure, a few days after the unfortunate event, we discovered the extensive work secretly undertaken by Moreno during his final two years of life. This groundbreaking and innovative project entailed abandoning metal welding in favor of more efficient and advanced material processing, built on the positive experiences gained from a decade of producing the Hyperspike Series.

Today, the fruit of this significant legacy is our current Series S.

In that pivotal moment in history, driven by the pride of their father’s hard work, it became the duty of his children to take the reins of the family project and continue the legacy built over 25 years of dedication. Special mention must be made of the extraordinary, albeit temporary, contribution provided during that phase by Davide Campanaro, a young person dear to the family, who, along with Gaetano Conti, Moreno and Dora’s eldest son, concretely established the current corporate project known as “MC Group.”

Today, our company is present in many countries worldwide and operates independently within the Italian market.

Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to all those who, as partners, suppliers, and collaborators, never ceased to believe in our project, even during the most difficult and tragic moments.

The “MC Group” is now tasked with continuing to write beautiful pages of this Italian story.
